Storyline
When Leon goes missing, the crew must apply their knowledge of ratios and unit rates to find and rescue him.
Facing a wormhole of unknown length, the crew need to find the only drone with a proportional fuel usage in relation to distance. Then, left without a functional engine, the crew must find the constant power output of several alternative fuel sources in order to generate enough power to escape the black hole.
Science and Engineering Practices
Analyzing and Interpreting Data
Interpreting data from the distress beacon, drones' fuel consumption, and debris analysis to make informed decisions.
Developing and Using Models
Using models to explain and understand phenomena like wormholes, black holes, and propulsion.
Constructing Explanations and Designing Solutions
Constructing explanations for Leon's disappearance, the use of combustible chemicals, and escaping gravitational fields.
Crosscutting Concepts
Cause and Effect
Understanding the cause and effect relationship between activating the wormhole and Leon's disappearance.
Scale, Proportion, and Quantity
Analyzing the proportionality of fuel consumption and distance for the drones.
Systems and System Models
Understanding the interactions and dynamics of the ship's systems, propulsion methods, and gravitational forces.
