Storm FrontMeteorologyGrades 6-8
Storyline
Students deploy atmospheric probes to a stormy frontier planet, then analyze warm and cold front data to determine which manned research station is in the path of an incoming storm.
Colonial Command lost contact with four stations on a turbulent frontier planet. A spike in atmospheric activity preceded the blackout. The crew is dispatched to deploy probes, read warm and cold front data, and evacuate an endangered station before an oncoming storm hits.
Science and Engineering Practices
Developing and Using Models
Develop and/or use a model to predict and/or describe phenomena.
Planning and Carrying Out Investigations
Conduct an investigation and/or evaluate and/or revise the experimental design to produce data to serve as the basis for evidence that meet the goals of the investigation.
Collect data to produce data to serve as the basis for evidence to answer scientific questions or test design solutions under a range of conditions.
Analyzing and Interpreting Data
Analyze and interpret data to provide evidence for phenomena.
