Storyline

RALF needs the crew's help with a water survey that may be less than a "chore" than he thinks that it is.

Dr. Marvin plans to surprise RALF with a first-of-its-kind robot-inclusive water park. In order to do this, he needs a water survey of three potential locations on Earth. The crew will tag along with RALF to survey the water in various locations and determine whether each location has solid or liquid fresh or saltwater.

3-Dimensional Science

Phenomenon

Water exists in many forms on Earth.

Science and Engineering Practices

Planning and Carrying Out Investigations

  • Make observations (firsthand or from media) and/or measurements to collect data that can be used to make comparisons.

  • Make predictions based on prior experiences.

Obtaining, Evaluating, and Communicating Information

  • Read grade-appropriate texts and/or use media to obtain scientific and/or technical information to determine patterns in and/or evidence about the natural and designed world(s).

  • Describe how specific images (e.g., a diagram showing how a machine works) support a scientific or engineering idea.

Crosscutting Concepts

Patterns

  • Children recognize that patterns in the natural and human designed world can be observed, used to describe phenomena, and used as evidence.

Disciplinary Core Ideas

ESS2.C: The Roles of Water in Earth’s Surface Processes

  • Water is found in many types of places and in different forms on Earth.
