Grades 4-12

Students are given a map on their screens called “Phishing Examples”. Students work together as a team to scan different objects on the map and collect information.

Objective: Students determine which text message is safe and which is a phishing attempt.

Answers:

• Sample 1 (Safe): Asks for personal information but directs the student’s parent/guardian to call the school, ensuring a secure process.

• Sample 2 (Phish): Includes urgency, comes from an unknown number, and requests personal information directly via text.

Objective: Students analyze and highlight the three most suspicious parts of a phishing email.

What Should Be Highlighted:

1. Sender Email: googlesupportteam@verifymyaccount.security.ru

• Clearly not a legitimate Google email address.

2. Spelling/Grammar Errors: “We has noticed a issue with you Goggle account login.”

• Poor grammar and misspelling of “Google” are major red flags.

3. Suspicious Link: http://googIe-secure-verif1cation.com

• URL is not from Google.

Teams of students receive different prompts:

Teacher reviews data with class and checks to see if designs meet the required rubric. Results are then revealed to the class.
