The Flying MachineAddition and Inequalities1st Grade
Storyline
The crew will apply their knowledge of addition to clear pelicans from and repair the pushinator before the moon comes down on the planet Sundras.
In order to safely clear the pipes of space pelicans, the crew must count and compare the number of birds in two chambers, including counting with tens. Then, to ensure the fan is set to the right setting, the crew will add the number of birds in the two chambers together.
Science and Engineering Practices
Using Mathematics and Computational Thinking
Use counting and numbers to identify and describe patterns in the natural and designed world(s).
Describe, measure, and/or compare quantitative attributes of different objects and display the data using simple graphs.
Use quantitative data to compare two alternative solutions to a problem.
Constructing Explanations and Designing Solutions
Make observations (firsthand or from media) to construct an evidence-based account for natural phenomena.
