5th Grade

Students work together to steer the ship and navigate their way across a map.

Teams are each representing a different Outer Rim Planet.

Teams just received new information about EITHER DKIS Productivity Research (Exanis, Kore, Tractum) OR DKIS Economic Benefit Research (Tristell, Tellenor, Dejerria).

Once teams read their information, they'll do the following:

Discuss with your team: What are the potential flaws in the DKIS research?

• DKIS Productivity Research Flaws: the research study being biased, it was done with three teenagers and three toddlers even though it was supposed to be "measuring" 5 year olds productivity; obviously teenagers do a better job at tightening screws than toddlers so this isn't proof that the DKIS will be successful

• DKIS Economic Benefit Research Flaws: the only citation in this is Jax (very biased) and there isn't real proof; there's no proof that work productivity will lead to longer days and less free/fun time

Exchange information about your DKIS research article with {{studentName}} on {{teamName}}. -- the program will pair up students with someone from a DIFFERENT TEAM that read about somethiing different than them.

"Why does it matter that research is unbiased?"

Students just received EITHER:

• ILC Official Memo (Exanis, Tellenor): learning from a wide range of subjects is better, there are more new patents per person here than when students only learn job-specific info, higher levels of happiness, lower satisfaction in places where students learn only about one topic, etc.

• I.B,L.E. Response (Tristell, Dejerria): humans shouldn't be treated like machines, technology can improve learning, but too much techonology hurts and decreases learning,

• GEDI Research (Kore, Tractum): collaborative learning like project-based learning, simulations, and group work improves learning outcomes; changing up teaching methods increases engagement, critical thinking, and creativity

Once teams read their information, they'll do the following:

Discuss with your team: What is the main idea of this memo?

Exchange information from your different memos with {{studentName}}. -- the program will pair up students with someone from a DIFFERENT TEAM that read about somethiing different than them.

"What are some pieces of evidence that show that the DKIS plan is bad for society?"

Students should be comparing and contrasting Rocco's DKIS proposal and the speech by Arcturus Lumos with their teams.

The main points they should discuss are:

• Rocco's proposed plan takes away choice, free will, and critical thinking

• Arcturus Lumos values choice, free will, and critical thinking in students

Teacher reviews data with class and checks to see if designs meet the required rubric. Results are then revealed to the class.
